Cadillac Will Not Squeeze XT7/XT8 SUV Between Escalade And XT6

Cadillac Will Not Squeeze XT7/XT8 SUV Between Escalade And XT6For now, at least.

Cadillac is gradually moving forward with a major restructuring plan. The brand plans to have at least half its vehicles electric by 2025. This means that it will have to give up a large portion of its dealers who are not ready to invest in electric mobility . Some combustion-powered models will not see the light of day due to this shift towards zero emission powertrains.

GM Authority says there isn’t enough space in Cadillac’s portfolio to accommodate XT7/or XC8 crossovers that would fill the gap between Escalade and XT6. The report from the outlet sounds more like an inductive assumption that is based on certain facts than information from an insider.

Nevertheless, the key to the success of the XT6 is the decision by the brand to use the C1 platform from General Motors rather than the more costly Omega platform. The XT6’s budget architecture had a negative impact on the appeal of premium customers from the start. This was due to the Omega’s many limitations.

GM Authority states that the XT7/XT8 are currently not in the cards because they “were intended to be what the XT6 originally was.” Also, even if Cadillac had access to the Omega platform, the XT7/XT8 would still be in a different league than the XT6. We don’t know how that could be a problem.

It seems that electric Cadillac models will open up the possibility of more crossovers. An XT7 or XT8 might be possible with fewer limitations to the platform and powertrain. But not right now.
