BMW 730d Travels 900 Miles On Single Tank To Prove Diesel’s Not Dead

A luxury limousine of two-tonnes that is non-hybrid can achieve almost 44 mpg. This is an excellent result.

Ever since Volkswagen’s Dieselgate global scandal exploded a few years ago, diesel has been a dirty word. The fact that compression ignition engines emit more harmful gases than the regulations allows has led to the end of diesel. Although diesel is not a popular choice in America, there are still many European companies that produce highly efficient and dynamic diesel engines.

BMW’s B57 inline-six diesel engine is one very good example. It has a displacement of 3.0 liters and power outputs of between 265 and 400 horsepower depending upon the number of turbochargers. This makes it more cost-effective than other combustion-powered 7 Series models, even if you don’t consider hybrid models. Here’s why.
BMW 730d Travels 900 Miles On Single Tank To Prove Diesel's Not Dead

A new video by Joe Achilles, shows the 730d in action. An England-based BMW enthusiast wanted to see how far he could travel with his 730 Ld and a single tank diesel. His original plan was to travel from London to Barcelona, but Europe’s travel restrictions meant that he had to limit his plans to the UK.

Achilles drove his car to the fuel station one morning and filled it up with premium diesel, 78 liters. Achilles set out on a journey around the country to ensure that the luxury limousine was traveling at the fastest speeds possible. This in this instance seems to be approximately 70 miles an hour (112 km per hour).

What was the result? The result? This is… amazing, regardless of what diesel experts tell you.
