According to a new report, the engine’s five-cylinder motor will be massaged to produce an additional 20 horsepower.
Since late October 2019, the first production-bodied prototypes of the new Audi RS3 were captured. The hot hatch/sedan duo is still not in production, but a new report by claims that it has.
Instead of maintaining the same output in the RS Q3 / RS Q3 Sportback Audi Sport is working on the 2.5-liter turbo-inline-five engine. This will extract more power. It will produce 420 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 pound-feet) of torque, according to reports. These numbers suggest that the new RS3 Sportback / Sedan with the Four Rings badge will have 20 hp (20 Nm) more power than the existing RS-badged compact cars.
Wait, there’s more. Auto Bilder heard that engineers are working to make the new RS3 use the same all-wheel drive developed by Volkswagen last year for the Golf R 8 as well as the first-ever TIGAN R. AWD’s main feature is its ability to distribute torque between the front and rear axles as well as between the rear wheels.
It is called the 4Motion, with R-Performance Torque vectoring by VW. However, it is obvious that Audi would rebrand the vehicle as Quattro in the RS3 models. VW boasted about the GolfR’s clever AWD system being able to seamlessly integrate with other running gear systems, such as the adaptive chassis control DCC and electronic differential locks (XDS), calling it a “world-first.”
Audi could borrow hardware from a VW model, which is quite funny considering that reports claim the VW core brand wanted to get Audi’s 2.5 TFSI engine for its Golf R 8 but Ingolstadt refused.
Auto Bild mentions that the RS3 should be announced sometime in the fall. It should reach European dealers by the end of 2021. It is expected to retail for just below EUR60,000 in Germany.
