Bye, B58. The engine now has 800 horsepower and a stroked 2ZJ.

Professional drifter Daigo Saito recently showed off his 2JZ-inline-six-powered modern A90 Toyota Supra on Instagram, but a new video from Monster Energy has provided a lot more details about this sliding machine. You can even see the machine burning rubber into thick white smoke.

Saito’s team began with a camouflaged Supra, which looked a lot like one of many test mules that we saw on the roads for months during coupe development. After removing the engine, technicians took the car apart. The classic 2JZ was installed in place of the BMW-sourced B58 Inline-Six.

The engine is now able to displace 3.4 liters instead of its 3.0-liter displacement. It is attached to a huge HKS turbo. It produces 800 horsepower (597 Kilowatts) and 651 pounds-feet (883 Newton-meters), which goes to the rear wheels. The sequential transmission simplifies the process of changing gears.

This video shows Saito testing out the Monster Energy livery before he is applied to his team. He is very comfortable kicking the tail. It sounds fantastic, too. The engine makes a distinctive sound at idle, which changes to a louder sound when it revs up.

Saito’s Supra will be competing in Formula Drift. The championship will be held in Long Beach, California on April 5.

It’ll be difficult to watch motorsports without seeing a Supra. may have a version suitable for GT4-class competition. A variant will be available for the Japan Super GT series. Additionally, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series already features a somewhat awkward looking example.
