Fans have known since 1999 that Pagani cars are quick. The company now claims one of the most famous lap records, with unofficial reports that the Pagani Zonda R completed the challenging Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit at 6m 47s.
These photos show the Zonda R during its record-breaking run. Although Pagani’s driver remains unknown, Marc Basseng, FIA GT Championship driver, has previously driven for them.
If true, the lap time is only one second faster that the Radical 8 LM record, set in August 2009 by Dutch driver Michael Vergers. Pagani’s lap time is a complete reversal of the 6m58s time set by the Ferrari599XX in March.
The Pagani Zonda R, weighing in at 1,070 kgs, can race to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. The engine’s 740 horsepower (552 kW/ 750 PS) 6.0 liter V12 engine gives it a top speed of 351 km/h (218 MPH). It can produce up to 710 Nm (524 feet-lb) of torque and guarantees ultra-fast sprints.
Only 15 units of the ZondaR will be built at a cost EUR1.5 million.
