Toyota Launches Japan’s Little Brother to the RAV4

You will be jealous of the Japanese cars.

After a brief stint under a shrink ray, the Toyota Raize arrives in Japan looking a bit like the Toyota Rav4. Although there is no sign of the model leaving Japan the small crossover looks great and it’s well worth the effort.

The Raize is 157.3 inches (3.995 millimeters), while the C-HR measures 171.2 inches (4.349 millimeters). This model is not built on Toyota’s TGNA platform. It instead rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture underpinnings. Future products can share more components with the two brands.

Exterior styling is rugged and boxy. Raize’s chiseled form makes it appear longer than its relatively short length.Toyota Launches Japan's Little Brother to the RAV4

The Raize comes with a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder. The Raize can be connected to a transmission with both the gears and the CVT belts. Toyota claims this system offers smooth acceleration at low speeds, fuel-efficient and quiet performance at higher speeds, and a smooth transition to high speeds. You can choose from front- or all-wheel drive for the Raize in a variety of trims.

The Raize’s interior is small and high-tech. To create a digital instrument display, the model includes an LED speedometer and a seven-inch TFT screen. The 9-inch display is compatible with Apple CarPlay. Safety tech that detects pedestrians and vehicles includes adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, and crash avoidance brake. In its lowest position, the cargo rear’s adjustable floor can hold 369 liters (13.8 cubic feet) with the rear seats raised.

The Raize’s prices start at 1.679million yen (current exchange rate: $15,403) The highest trim level costs 2,282,200 Yuan ($20,935).
