Maserati GranTurismo Folgore EV Debuting In 2023 With 1,200 HP

This will be Maserati’s first electric vehicle (EV), and the company plans to make it all-electric by 2030.

The new Maserati GranTurismo model is on its way. The next-generation model was supposed to be released last year but delays have delayed the release. Maserati has announced its electrified GranTurismo Folgore. It packs a 1,200-horsepower (895 watt) punch.

The full reveal will take place in 2023. However, teaser images were released today to give a glimpse at how the GranTurismo Fogore will look. It’s not a radical departure from the GT shape with its swooping body lines, but it is a good indication. The three photos don’t show an unobstructed view as they still show a camo-wrapped vehicle. There’s no denying the aero-friendly tri-spoke wheels and some of GranTurismo’s iconic grille station at the front.

But, what really matters is what lies beneath. This teaser is not a complete description of Maserati’s new platform, but it does reveal that it uses three electric motors. Maserati promises more than 1,200 horsepower for each of its four wheels. The car will be powered by an 800-volt battery, which is located low in the car. According to Maserati, the 0-60 time is under three seconds and the top speed is close to 190 mph. The Italian brand doesn’t seem to be joking about its first step towards electrification.

Maserati’s transition to electric power should occur quickly from there. The new Grecale crossover will also get an electric version, which will debut in 2023. The Quattroporte, Levante, and MC20 will all have dedicated EV models by 2025. All of them will be packaged under the Maserati Folgore name, with the exception of the electric models. This is a very abrupt change for a manufacturer who has barely been able to compete with the Ghibli and Levante hybrids in electric water. It’s part of Stellantis’ ambitious Dare Forward 2020 plan, which was announced earlier in the year.

Today’s announcement by Maserati didn’t mention the GranTurismo Folgore’s price, range, charging times or pricing. We’ll have to wait for the official debut next year.
