Honda Civic Type R enlists with police in Australia

Honda Civic Type R enlists with police in AustraliaTo promote a social media project, the CTR will make an appearance.

The Honda Civic TypeR is now in a new flashy job with Australia’s New South Wales Police Force. The hot hatch will be part of the Eyewatch social media initiative by the police to get people involved with local law enforcement via social media. Unfortunately, the hot hatch won’t be speeding down.

Honda Australia donated the Civic Type R for 12 months to the NSW Police Force. The hot hatch is dressed in the same livery as the state’s patrol cars and features the Eyewatch initiative logo. Even the Honda has flashing lights. In order to attract young people, the law enforcement agency plans to drive the Honda to large public events and schools to make them feel more comfortable with police interaction.

“The vehicle’s eye-catching design will hopefully spark conversation and make more people, particularly younger, feel more comfortable approaching their local police,” New South Wales Police Assistant Commissar Cassar stated in the Type R’s announcement.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder of the Civic Type R produces 306 horsepower (228kilowatts) as well as 295 pound-feet (400 Newton meters) in the United States. Six-speed manual is the only available gearbox. Standard equipment includes a three-mode adjustable suspension. The 2019 hot hatch gets a new infotainment system that includes physical buttons and volume knob. The cupholders are also larger.

The New South Wales Police Force is known for having cool vehicles in their fleet. In 2016, the New South Wales Police Force began using a Lexus RC F for road safety. An Audi S7 was able to fulfill a similar role one year later.
