The Autonomous and Electric Honda Type R is Here… for Your Lawn

It knows when it is low on battery and goes to the charging station by itself.

The Type R badge first appeared on the NSX-R 25 years ago. Honda is celebrating the anniversary with a special Miimo. You may be wondering what a Miimo is. The Miimo is a robotic lawnmower that has been in existence for some time. It was introduced recently in the United States at a price of $2,499.

The Type R-branded fully electric lawnmower has been given a Fire blade livery to commemorate 25 years of Type R motorcycles and Type R cars. These mowers are not available for purchase, even though they look great. Honda claims that these are prototypes. The Type R version is our favorite, with three fake exhaust tips made of stainless steel to reproduce the Civic Type R. It also has a small rear wing with carbon fiber vinyl in the center. The Fireblade version has five more LEDs while the functional taillights and headlights are equipped with 40 each.

It’s a standard Miimo with many 360-degree sensors. It can also do all the work automatically without human input. The lithium-ion battery in the device is constantly monitored to determine if it has dropped below 30%. The battery is then “filled up”, and the machine heads off to the docking station to recharge itself. This lasts 30 minutes for the base model, while the $2799 version has enough juice to last for an hour. One minute of charging equals one hour of mowing in both cases.

Honda claims that the Miimo can stop and turn to avoid obstacles from humans, pets, or other similar objects. There’s more. The mower also has an anti-theft protection feature that sounds an alarm and disables the operation if it is lifted from the ground. To put it back to work, you will need to insert a configurable anti-theft PIN number.
