Retro-flavored appearance packages will cost $2,600 more than a new 370Z.
Nissan unveiled a pair special anniversary models last week at the New York International Auto Show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Z car as well as the GTR.
The pricing has been announced by Nissan for the former. Pricing for the 2019 Nissan 370Z 50th anniversary Edition will be $30,090, while prices for the 370Z NISMO package with that same package will be $45,790.
In 1969, the original 240Z was introduced at the New York International Auto Show. This event laid the foundation for Nissan’s success on the American market. Although many Americans were opposed to imports, the 240Z’s supermodel looks, solid performance and great value won the hearts and minds.
Although the 370Z is somewhat old, it’s still an excellent sports car. We discussed this on last week’s Motor1 podcast. The problem with Nissan’s US pricing strategy was that while discounts and incentives make many cars, including the 370Z, great values, their MSRPs make them seem exorbitant.
Auto writers must judge every car based on its MSRP. This is why the Nissans seem to be the most popular in comparison tests. But don’t let this discourage you from trying out the new 370Z.
The 50th anniversary appearance package has stripes and colors that are reminiscent of the BRE Datsun SCCA racing cars. Nissan, then sold as Datsun in America, made a name for itself as a high-performance car that could compete with the best European cars.
It is not exaggerated to say that all Japanese cars, including Nissans, were helped by the BRE race cars. It’s evident that Nissan cares about their heritage, as evidenced by the news that they will be producing parts for the R32 Skyline.
