It is an improvement.
BMW will soon launch the iNext, its next “technological flagship”, tentatively called. You’re not the only one who thinks that this is a bad name. BMWBlog has released a new report that suggests the German automaker was debating the name of its electric SUV. Initially, iNext and iX5 were the most popular options. BMW appears to have decided to call it iX.
While the new name is consistent with BMW’s existing naming conventions, it gives the automaker some flexibility going forward. The BMW i3, i8 and company are already in existence. The name BMW’s flagship iX5 might have been a problem, especially since the automaker is preparing to launch the X5 crossover.
BMW will continue to use its naming convention for the iX. This means that the automaker will refer to the iX’s horsepower output after the model name. BMWBlog suggests that you think “BMW IX xDrive40″, iXxDrive50 and iXM50 xDrive.”
The iNext is still being captured by our spy photographers. It appears to be production-ready. We were able to see the curving display that dominates the dashboard. It functions as both the instrument cluster, and the infotainment system.
Spy shots from the exterior show a classic crossover shape with a tall grille and slim headlights. It hides many of the crossover’s details, so it may be more streamlined underneath. It is also hard to see how big the grille looks, but it does not appear excessively large.
We have seen the exterior and viewed the inside. BMW has kept a lot of details about the iNext secret. We don’t know much about the powertrain, range or charging times. We can expect BMW to offer a variety of power, range, pricing, and pricing options for the EV. The exact date BMW will unveil the car is unknown, but it should be available at dealerships by 2021.
