Motoring from the old days for the new age.
Automotive technology is changing at an incredible rate. It is , not that electric cars will be dominating the roads of the world. GTO Engineering presses the pause key to recall and embrace the golden age internal combustion motoring. This was when cool was a sleek two-seater with an electronically controlled V12 engine. We present the Squalo.
UK-based GTO Engineering This car was previewed in November 2020 We had only basic renderings at that time, with a promise of V12 engines and vague details about its construction. Apart from a cheeky codename, we didn’t know the name.
Moderna This is a modern interpretation of the Modena-built Modena Italian sports car. The latest renderings of the car as it is now in production are the result of the progress made on the project. This includes the 4.0-liter quad-cam V12 motor, which was also created in-house. The Squalo is a product of GTO Engineering.
Mark Lyon, GTO Engineering’s Managing Director and Founder, said that it is often the smallest parts of a car which take the longest. We are now at the stage of creating the design models here in the UK. Soon we will announce our technical partners who will work with us on the interiors and exterior manufacturing. “I’ve never been more excited about manufacturing and design in all my years of experience in the [automotive] sector.”
GTO Engineering hopes to keep the Squalo lightweight with a curb weight of less than 2,204 pounds (1,099 kilograms). It will include a steel-tube chassis that makes extensive use of aluminum, carbon fiber, and other metals. A modern independent suspension system will be under the chassis, mounted on custom 18-inch wheels. GTO Engineering isn’t ready to discuss horsepower but the Squalo should be quite exciting with less than one metric ton of car. The entire project is infused with Ferrari flavor.
The company promises to make more information available over the next few months. The company currently plans to begin customer deliveries in 2023.
