The 1,000-HP BMW M5 Vs. Rallycross Racers Drag Racing Is Nearly Explosive

Rare appearance of Ford RS200 in drag racing on the tarmac.

Rallycross drivers are fast and love dirt. What we see today isn’t a normal rally race car. Mat Watson and his team hosted three of the 5 Nations British Rallycross Championship competitors for a typical Carwow video: A drag racing.

Ford RS200 Evolution is the most prominent of the featured rallycross drivers. With current exchange rates, the 740-horsepower/552-kilowatts mid-engine, purpose built race car is worth approximately 400,000 sterling pounds. It’s equivalent to around $547,000. This race car was built in 200 units, making it a rare opportunity, especially when it races straight on the asphalt.

Next Ollie O’Donovan’s Ford Cosworth-powered Fiesta is valued at 150,000 Sterling Pounds ($205,000). The yellow Fiesta weighs 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) and produces 528 horsepower (394 kW).

The last but not least is the Mini rally racer that uses a Pipo Custom WRX motor. This rallycross star is the most expensive at 600,000. Sterling Pounds ($820,000). It pulls at 1,000 Newton-meters (738 pounds-feet).

Carwow’s competitor is not a pushover. Evolve tuned the BMW M5, which has 800 metric horses. The British tuner modified it to make 1,000 horsepower, surpassing all three other rallycross competitors.

The M5’s 1,970kg (4,343 lbs.) weight was a disadvantage. This could have helped to offset the results but was it enough to allow the smaller, less powerful rallycross racers over the Bimmer to win?
