Richard Hammond Plans to Restore Oliver the Opel

It’s still a much better love story than Twilight.

Many petrolheads have watched every episode of Top Gear at minimum once. Although the famous motoring show is known for pushing the limits of the car, the Botswana special was particularly challenging. The trio were required to cross the Makgadikgadi salt plains in their cars. You will be familiar with Richard Hammond and his emotional bond with Oliver , the Opel Kadett.

The Makgadikgadi salt flat is known as the world’s largest. The collection of salt pans, which we won’t go into detail about, is one of the most inhospitable, largest, and hottest places on Earth.
Richard Hammond Plans to Restore Oliver the OpelFrom the very beginning, it was obvious that Oliver the Opel had been brought by the Hamster. The Kadett was able to glide along the surface but James May and Jeremy Clarkson had to be more aggressive in reducing the weight of their respective Lancia Beta Coupes and Mercedes-Benz 230E cars. This led them to break windows and cut off doors.
Richard Hammond Plans to Restore Oliver the OpelAlthough the episode was originally released in 2007 many moons back, Hammond and Oliver have recently been reunited. The TV presenter is still having trouble deciding what to do with the car. He is unable to decide if the Kadett should be restored to the way it was when it rolled off the showroom floor or if he should build something completely new.We are a purist, and we want the vehicle to remain as it is. But, we don’t know what to do. Feel free to comment below about which direction you would take Oliver.
