Spoiler Alert: This one is very close.
Both vehicles are front-wheel driven and produce approximately 300 horsepower (223.7kW) from a turbocharged 4-cylinder motor. The only difference between the two examples is that the Honda has a manual gearbox, while the VW has dual-clutch auto.
It may not surprise then that the lap times of both cars were almost identical. The German car set 2 minutes 027, while the Japanese rival was a little slower at 2 hours 028. Honda fans may be disappointed but this speaks volumes about how a DSG gearbox makes a difference on a circuit as power-hungry as Hockenheim.
Before we get into a heated debate in the comments section, these laps show how far the hot hatchback’s journey has taken. It’s not uncommon for front-wheel drive to get a lot of flack, so it’s refreshing to see videos such as these where the stopwatch speaks for itself.
