Dealers mark up Ram TRX to cost more than some supercars

Dealers mark up Ram TRX to cost more than some supercarsIt was just a matter time.

The 2021 RAM TRX has been out and about, so it was only natural that we would write this story. According to RAM, the Hellcat-powered truck costs $70,095, but it’s possible to find one for less than that.

Jalopnik dug into the national inventory and found several TRXs listed at over $100,000, as well as a Launch Edition at $143,000. Although we expected some big markups, almost every TRX currently on sale in the US is listed at six figures. The cost of loading a truck onto the configurator is just over $90,000. However, paying 20 percent more for a truck that will depreciate makes no sense.

A Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is a great example of a supercar. The mid-engined beast starts at $100,000. It will probably stay there for many years. The Porsche produces 414 horsepower (309 kW) from its 3.8 liter flat-six. This is about 300 horsepower (224kW) less than that of the TRX. The Hellcat 6.2-liter V8 engine produces a ridiculous 702 horsepower (524 kW) as well as 650 pound-feet (881Nm).

Now we have to wonder when prices will drop back to Earth for the masses, or at least those who can afford a pickup truck that costs close to six figures.
