Ineos Automotive has announced that the production of its Grenadier SUV will start in July 2022. This timeline doesn’t apply to the diesel- and gasoline-powered versions of the off-roader.
A recent release states that Ineos Grenadier Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Concept (FCEV Concept) will be made. This hydrogen-powered vehicle will start on- and offroad testing by 2022. This is part the company’s goal to support hydrogen as a clean-energy solution for future versions.
Through a partnership agreement, the Grenadier FCEV Concept will receive its fuel cell technology from FCEV pioneer Hyundai. This announcement confirms a prior report from last year and suggests that the automaker is making this move.
Ineos, which produces around 300,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, is one of the largest chemical companies in the world. This is a result of chemical manufacturing. Ineos also owns the subsidiary Inovyn which is specialized in electrolysis to make hydrogen for power generation, transportation and other purposes.
Ineos stated that it will continue to prioritise the production of green hydrogen, which is produced from water through electrolysis powered with renewable energy. The company also invests in blue hydrogen production, where the carbon can be safely captured underground.
