An update is needed for the Mercedes E-Class. Five years after its debut, the current-generation car is ready for a complete refresh. The spy photos of the vehicle have not revealed much as it was heavily camouflaged. These spy photos aren’t much different from previous ones, but they do show that the Mercedes E-Class test car is more unique than we have seen. This could be the E53e plug in hybrid.
New spy photos show the sedan well disguised. However, Mercedes-AMG has distinct design elements that are difficult to conceal with camouflage or cladding. The front and rear of the sedan are where you will see the Panamericana grille and four exhaust pipes. There is also a larger brake caliper. However, the car appears to have larger intake openings in its lower front bumper.

Today’s E53 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter Inline-Six engine with electrification. It produces 429 horsepower (319 Kilowatts) as well as 384 pound-feet (521 Newton-meters). The E53 can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just five seconds.
The four-cylinder hybrid powertrain could be borrowed by the E53e plug in hybrid. It could produce 600 horsepower (447 kW) but that’s too much power to drive a mid-level AMG. Mercedes will introduce an even more powerful AMG E63 to the lineup, which requires room for breathing.
Mercedes seems to be adopting a conservative approach when redesigning the E-Class. This is something that the brand has done with its other vehicles. The new E-Class will feature the same basic shape, but with some evolutionary design changes. The interior of the E-Class will be completely new across all models. It should match the C–Class as well as the S–Class. This will bring the most up-to-date infotainment to the E-Class.
Mercedes has not yet revealed when the new E-Class will be available, but we do not expect it to debut anytime soon. The E-Class standard should be first, followed by AMG models. We expect the E53, possibly the E53e, to debut before the E63.
