Do you really need camouflage?
Mercedes is investing heavily in electrification, as are virtually all automakers. It is necessary to have huge budgets in order to finance the EV push. Markus Schafer, R&D boss, announced that the company would review its entire lineup and simplify it. “Streamline” is a fancy term for reducing models, platforms and engines.
The G-Class isn’t in danger, however. Its future has been secured. Ola Kallenius (Daimler CEO) revealed plans in November 2019 to launch an electronic version the well-known off-roader. Spies show that Mercedes is still keen to have fun with the gas-guzzling G.
11 MPG – This was the EPA’s fuel efficiency rating for the G550 4×4 squared. Although it will be more efficient as it is an entirely new vehicle, it will still be one of the most thirsty SUVs in its class. It’s not that people shopping for a G-class high-riding SUV really care about fuel efficiency. This niche version of an existing model is all about being a showpiece – I am filthy rich.
The black-and-white duo were caught in winter wonderland with camouflage to conceal the obvious: beefy fenders to cover wide tires, a rear mounted spare wheel and additional LED lights mounted on the roof rack. The new G-Class 4×4 Squared will feature portal axles, much like the all-conquering Unimog or the insane 6×6 pickup truck.
GLE Coupe is actually a coupe compared to the GLE Coupe, which has a lot of ground clearance and can go over most obstacles. Given the exorbitant price, it needs to be extremely competent. While the old G550 4×4 Squared was priced at $225,000, the that we tested in 2017 was more expensive.
Mercedes has been testing the G-Wagen’s ultimate version for some time now, so the official premiere will likely take place in the next few months.
