It can be driven with electric juice up to 43 miles (70 km).
What is this Jeep Commander? It’s the five-seat Grand Commander version of the three row Grand Commander. This SUV is exclusive to China and is based on the latest Cherokee (KL). Previewed by the 2017 Yuntu concept . Both models are only sold in China, as you may have guessed. The seven-seat model was first launched in China about a year ago. It was then followed by the five-seat model towards the end. The two-row version of the car is now being electrified. One model already has a hybrid PHEV setup.
The exterior looks almost identical to the conventionally powered model except for the additional cap at the left quarter panel, where Jeep installed the charging port. The unspecified battery pack, which will provide enough energy to power the vehicle for up to 43 miles (70 km), is a good choice for city use.
Jeep won’t share much information about the CommanderPHEV so we don’t yet know if the additional hardware has had an impact on cargo capacity. Although the electrified SUV weighs more than the regular model, it has almost the same interior. However, the instrument cluster may have been modified to show PHEV-specific information.
The Grand Commander and Commander are currently available only in China, but we have been hearing reports that the latter could be available in the United States. According to rumors, the seven-seat model will receive the Chrysler badge and may be renamed Journey. It could be built in the U.S. with the Belvedere plant as an educated guess. Despite this, it is not yet official so please take this report with a pinch of salt.
