Maserati Baby SUV – Imagined in Photoshop

This is what we believe the next small Maserati SUV should look like.

Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO, revealed the future of Maserati up to 2022 during the presentation. The next-generation Ghibili, Quattroporte, and a smaller Levante SUV are in development. Automedia now imagines the future Maserati SUV with this edited photo in Photoshop.

Maserati provided preliminary information about the new SUV. Maserati stated that the new baby SUV would have a 50/50 weight distribution and a lightweight platform that is best in class. It will have the best-in-class power to weight ratio, superior ride and handling, and a plug-in hybrid powerplant option.

The image shows that the original specs were met, especially the weight distribution due to the rear overhangs and balanced from. Although the baby SUV isn’t too different from the current Levante it is a little more puffed and top-heavy. The vertical-slat grille is the same as the current Maseratis, which suggests that the Italian brand will not be changing its styling.

The baby SUV’s ground clearance will be lower, but it may have 17s or 18s depending on the photo. This would give it a more beefy appearance. The baby SUV we imagine may be smaller than that of the Levante, but it is still larger in appearance.

We can only imagine what powertrain Maserati will put in its baby SUV. The less spicy GTS version of the Levante produces 550 horsepower (538 kilowatts) while the 3.8-liter V8 of the Levante produces 730 Newton-meters (538 pounds-feet). It is possible that the engine in the baby SUV will be smaller.

We speculate that it could be the 3.0L Ferrari engine. If Maserati keeps its promise of lightweight body construction, it’s 430 horsepower and 580 Nm (428lb-ft) output will be more than sufficient.
