Nissan’s LMP1 racing car is expected to serve as the basis of the GT-R (36) which will likely have a hybrid powertrain wrapped in a body that was inspired by the 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. A source quoted by Motor Trend states that the new GT-R will feature a completely new design to allow for efficient cooling and improve aerodynamics.

The hybrid system developed with Williams will allow the supercar to produce 784 bhp (585kW) combined. To handle all this power, an eight-speed transmission was developed. It will replace the six-speed DCT that apparently cannot handle more torque. The R36’s electric motor will boost torque by 481 lb/ft (652Nm) to 737 Lb/ft (998Nm).

According to the report, a concept car is being shown at the Tokyo Motor Show next year while production cars will be unveiled in 2018.
