The concept features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine producing more than 280 PS (206kW). Honda has not revealed the exact specifications of the car, but it hinted that the car would “deliver unmatched performances compared to any other Type R car,” including the “Integra”, Accord and even NSX.
A new, mounted ‘+R’ button on the steering wheel will be available. This button increases the engine’s response and the steering response.
Suehiro Hasshi (large project leader for the Civic Type R), stated that the Civic Type R in default standard mode is extremely agile. It’s an everyday sports car with a fluid acceleration and an excellent handling. To set pulses pounding, he said, “The +R button creates a more dynamic, athletic car for the driver. This is a huge difference in car character. The extreme ‘+R” mode makes the car ideal for track use, and will be loved by true sports-driving enthusiasts.
The Type R has a “steering axis” system that has two additional “kingpins in the front suspension. Honda claims they reduce torque steer and allow the driver to maximize the car’s extraordinary drivability.
The Honda Civic Type R will be available in Europe in 2014, and it will also be made in the United Kingdom.
