According to reports, the folding hardtop mechanism will be taken from the 488 Spider.
It appears that Ferrari is working on a new open-top model, based on the 812 Superfast. Marcel Massini, Ferrari historian and expert, claims that the V12-powered front-engined prancing horse will be stripped of its fixed roof in order to make way for a folding hardtop.
The 812 Superfast’s predecessor was the F12berlinetta. It received the convertible treatment with the F60America (pictured above). However, this special edition was limited to 10 cars in the U.S. with a choice of a fabric roof or removable carbon fiber roof. The 812 Spider/Aperta will use a folding hardtop, similar to that used on the 458 Spider and 488 Spider models. However, there are some differences.
This is all we have for now. While this information should not be taken as an official announcement it is the best. According to another member of FerrariChat, Ferrari has been keeping its future products secretive. Some dealers may not even know the model exists. The dealer declined to give him a deposit because he didn’t know anything about the convertible 812.
The 2018-2022 roadmap published in September shows that Ferrari has a busy schedule. The Purosangue, Maranello’s most significant (and controversial) model in the range, will be the first-ever SUV. There are 15 new models in development, with an emphasis on electrified cars. Ferrari is a busy company right now, with the Monza SP1/SP2 duo and other retro-inspired models in the pipeline.
