Ford Team needs a new GT500.
Few automotive rivalries can match the Chevrolet Camaro or the Ford Mustang. The two Pony cars began fighting in 1967. Camaro was absent for much of 2000, but the battle for bragging rights continues. This drag strip video by Wheels is something you’ll often see in America. It features the 2018 Shelby GT350, 2018 Camaro L1 and their current top guns.
Both cars are stock. Anybody who has spent any time in the Mustang and Camaro worlds knows how rare this is.
The numbers show that the Camaro should win this contest. The ZL1 is a 650-horsepower (455-85-watt) beast with its supercharged LT4 v8. The GT350’s 5.2 liter mill produces 526 hp (392 kW), and it is one of the most naturally-aspirated, best-sounding V8s on the market. Many comparos have been conducted and the Camaro always wins. When it comes to racing in real-world situations, numbers may not always be accurate.
We would normally direct you to the video to see the dramatic ending the same way as we do. But, unless there is a catastrophic failure, the Mustang will not win this. The Shelby has a better launch than the ZL1, but we will admit that the Camaro wins the long-term. So the drama is in how much Ford’s war horse has to lose. will be left with a little excitement.
The Ford camp has good news: a new GT500 is coming soon. It will produce at least 700 horsepower. This should give the Blue Oval enough power to win the quarter-mile title again. Or at least until Chevy raises the ante. It’s a great time to be a fan American muscle.
