New Citroen X5 X Part Sedan, Wagon, and Part SUV

The flagship is now available in three versions.

While the Germans might be dominant in the midsize segment of the market, the European portion of Stellantis will not give up easily. Citroen’s new flagship will challenge the likes Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series. The three German-born models come in different sedan and wagon versions, but the new C5X is a mix of both, with some SUV components.

Citroen’s quirky designs continue with the C5 X, a range-topping model that has a bold appearance. This is due to its three-in-one body configuration. Although the roofline is relatively flat, it screams sedan. However, the extended rear gives the car a wagon-like appearance. The tall ride height reminds me of the C5 Aircross model, which was also a C5-badged model by Citroen.
The new C5X X measures in at 4,805 millimeters (199.1 inches) long, 1,865mm (73.4in) wide and 1,485mm (58.4in) high. It is smaller than the German counterparts. The cargo volume behind the rear seats is 545 liters (19.2 cube feet), which can be folded to make it flat. The exterior styling is quirky and reminiscent of the 2016 Cxperience concept While the interior is packed with all of Citroen’s latest tech. A 12-inch touchscreen is used for infotainment, and there’s also a large head-up display that supports augmented reality. You still have physical controls to adjust the climate and an instrument cluster that is fully digital.

Citroen has several gasoline engines in development, but the plug-in hybrid powertrain is what they highlight. It boasts 225 horsepower and more that 50 km (31 miles) of electrical range. The PHEV model can travel up to 84 mph (135km/h) with the combustion engine off. This is much faster than most people will ever need.
The new C5 X is a fitting flagship. It comes with the Citroen Advanced Comfort suspension. The plug-in hybrid version adds an active suspension. The French automaker calls it Progressive Hydraulic Cushions. This, coupled with the comfortable seats, should ensure a smooth ride on bumpy surfaces. In Europe, the Citroen C5 X is set to go on sale in the second half.
