This is not a 4xe.
These spy shots are completely boring. The 2022 Jeep Compass has already received a mild facelift twice, in China , and then again in the USA at the 2021 Chicago Auto Show. These photos show a 2022 Compass on a truck. But sometimes, there are secrets hidden in plain sight.
This is what our spy sources claim to have seen. This is a brand new Jeep Compass. But what’s the sticker on the windshield? This sticker is a high voltage sticker that indicates this sucker may be at least partially electric. It isn’t a plug-hybrid 4xe, as there’s only one access door to fill a fuel tank. This also has this Jeep Camouflage is not all that necessary – there’s some tape on the badge at the rear hatch’s base.
It can be electrified, but not a plug-in hybrid 4xe-4xe, and then we have a mild-hybrid model. Stellantis is developing hybrid solutions that can be used with existing powertrain systems, according to our spy sources. We believe that this vehicle is a new Compass with a 48-volt mild Hybrid system.
The main power source is a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine borrowed from the Renegade. An integrated electric motor and transmission are also available to provide an additional electric boost. This configuration allows for electric-only operation up to 80 mph as long as the battery is charged.
The new Compass is only available in the US with a standard 2.4-liter gasoline burning four-cylinder producing 177 horsepower (132 megawatts). The Compass can turn either the front or all four wheels using either a six-speed or nine-speed automatic for all-wheel drive. Although it is not clear whether mild-hybrid models will be offered in all Compass trims or just in certain trim levels, the Limited version we spotted here seems to be one. We should know more soon. Jeep will announce the hybrid option before the end of 2021, according to our expectations.
