Although it isn’t a six-cylinder engine, it’s certainly not slow.
The AutoTopNL video below is about the entry-level Supra. It also features BMWpower, a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower (190 kW) and a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder. A 3,200-pound rear-wheel drive sports car with 255 horsepower sounds great on its own. Unfortunately, the I6 was the most popular model in the world for a year before the 2.0 version came out. People tend to think of the 2.0 as the Supra with more power. This video may change some of those opinions.
Toyota claims that the Supra 2.0 can reach 60 mph in just five seconds. This is not a slow car, and this video shows the car’s modest powerband. The factory-restricted top speed of 155 MPH is not slow, but it’s technically identical to the more powerful model. The 3.0 is faster, but the limiters are removed, so the six-cylinder can go faster.
However, the Supra 2.0’s top speed on an unrestricted section German autobahn confirmed that the four-cylinder Supra packs a lot of punch, despite the commentary from the driver about it not being as fast. The six-cylinder influence skews perception again, but the Supra 2.0 climbs quickly to the published 155-mph (325 km/h), then slows to an indicated 161 mph (259km/h) before the driver lifts.
Although we suspect that there was an error in the speedometer, the conclusion is the same. The turbo-four sports car is a vibrant and worthy of your attention.
