It boasts the Ferrari’s most powerful and revving engine.
The hotter 812 Superfast has finally arrived after what seemed like an endless string spy photos and rumors. Well, almost. Ferrari has published a few images as well as preliminary technical specifications before the full debut on May 5, which confirms a rumor that we first heard via the FerrariChat forums .
The official name of the car will be revealed when it debuts in two weeks. Maranello currently refers to the accelerated 812 as a “special edition” (Versione Speciale). While the VS is more aggressive than the Superfast, it looks as elegant as a modern Prancing horse should.
The front has larger air intakes where the spoiler lip sticks out higher than usual. Additionally, the bumper corners have an aerodynamic fin that optimizes airflow. The profile is dominated by side vents that run behind the rear wheels. This suggests that this Superfast is not a regular model. A body-colored aluminum panel has been replaced by a carbon fiber panel that looks like louvers from the top.
Rear air vents signify that special attention has been paid to aerodynamics. The quad-round exhausts have been removed and replaced with two rectangular vertical pieces. These are pushed towards the corners. To channel air, they are flanked by an enlarged carbon fibre diffuser that has multiple fins under the car.
Although details about the engine are not available at this time, they will be enough to make it worth the wait until May 5. Ferrari’s V12 engine has been tuned to produce 830 horsepower. While the SF90 Stradale, LaFerrari and LaFerrari are both more powerful, the hybrid component of the 812 VS gives the edge if you’re only referring to the ICE.
The Ferrari Superfast is also the most powerful Ferrari road car, with a maximum horsepower of 9,500 rpm. These numbers are a bit more than the 800 horsepower of the Superfast at 8,500 rpm. A full 1,000 rpm should result in an incredible soundtrack from a dying breed, the naturally aspirated V12.
For now, torque is not disclosed. However, we expect a slight increase in the Superfast’s 530 pound-feet (718 Newton meters) at 7,000 RPM delivered by the Superfast’s 6.5-liter engine. Ferrari has combined aerodynamic tweaks and extra power to make the Superfast faster. The VS should outperform the standard model’s neck-snapping acceleration. It can go from 0-60 mph (100 km/h), to 0-60 mph (20 km/h), in 7.9 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 211 mph (341 km/h).
Ferrari also shared details in this preview, including the return to four-wheel steering and a new version its Slide Slip Control vehicle dynamics system. The VS is expected to lose weight due to the extensive use of carbon fibre inside and out.
This is it for now. The world premiere of Ferrari’s 812 VS will be streamed live. Check back May 5 for the official name and details.
