You can watch 10 minutes of drag racing action between old and new muscle cars

Racing is a drug, and we are hopelessly addicted.

We love to check out Wheels YouTube channel every so often for drag racing clips at Mission Raceway Park, not far from Vancouver, Canada. The channel created a nice compilation of muscle cars from America that was shown at the drag strip a few weeks ago. The six-minute-long clip was followed by another compilation that pitted muscle cars from yesterday against modern-day vehicles. It’s just over 10 minutes in length and well worth the effort for its screaming superchargers, baritone V8 growl and other great features. You start to see the evolution of performance over time. We’ll get to that later.

Let’s start by giving you a brief overview of the venue. Mission Raceway Park is located just north of the U.S./Canada border. It is well-placed to draw in gearheads both from the Vancouver and Seattle regions. The Pacific Northwest has a vibrant and active car culture. We’ve seen all kinds of cars, from supercars to old muscle cars to supercars. The majority of clips feature American Muscle. This brings us back to the 10-minute montage.

This video features Dodge Challengers as well as Chargers from both old and new. The clip begins with a Charger Hellcat equipped with a parachute and facing off against an older Challenger. It’s not a bad idea to place a bet on the Charger with the parachute but the race ended up being very close. There were both old and new Camaros out there, as well as classic Novas and classic Chevelles and even an older Dodge Dart. There’s something for everyone who loves muscle cars.

Here is where the interesting observation begins. Except for a few rare exceptions, the older cars get the jump at 60 feet with a strong launch. Half-track is where the advantage fades as the newer generation of cars comes roaring past. You can’t imagine a better comparison between these two eras. The classics have powerful engines and shorter gearing that allow for maximum quarter-mile performance. Modern engines, however, are more powerful and offer more thrust for their engines. Although there are some exceptions, the overall result is quite fascinating to see.

This montage has some close races and some blowouts. Everyone wins because they show up and have fun.
