VW Employees Get Another Coronavirus Bonus as a One-Off Payment

This is the second premium VW employees received during the pandemic.

Since two years ago, the coronavirus epidemic has affected many industries. One of these industries is the automotive industry. Companies have tried to compensate workers who continue to work despite the risks.

Volkswagen AG is one of these companies. Volkswagen AG has announced that it will give its German employees another round of the “coronavirus prime” to recognize their hard work over the past months.

500 Euros or $568 at current exchange rates equals the bonus. This is a retrospective payment that covers the period July 2021 through February 2022.

The employees’ monthly salaries will be paid and the payout will take place at the end February 2022. The employees will get the entire amount, and it will not be subject to tax.

“In the last months, the pandemic has tested our employees greatly – whether they were at our offices or working remotely. We are proud of their remarkable work and would like to acknowledge their flexibility and unwavering dedication. Gunnar Kilian, Chief Human Resources Officer, stated that this is why the coronavirus premium was created.

In recognition of the extra strain that the pandemic has imposed, apprentices, dual-students and doctoral students will be eligible for a bonus. They will be eligible for up to 300 euros (or $341).

The first round of coronavirus bonus payments from Volkswagen was made in June 2021. It covered the period March 2020 through June 2021. The money was worth 1,000 euros (1,136).

These bonuses were made possible by the German government’s economic aid package coronavirus. Employers can pay up to 1,500 euro ($1,705) premium to their employees, without having to pay any tax or social security contributions.

It’s not the first time that automakers have offered a coronavirus bonus. Daimler offered a $1,200 “corona” bonus to employees in December 2020 for similar reasons.
