This tuned Challenger SRT Demon has 1,035 horsepower and an impressive 4.5-liter supercharger. It’s incredibly fast and it sounds great.
After demonstrating the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s ability to cover the quarter-mile in 9.14 seconds Hennessey then explains what it is like to drive the 1,035 horsepower (772 kilowatts), beast in a more civilized manner. The supercharged engine produces a powerful bellow when the accelerator is pressed down. This sounds almost like an animal in a stampede, regardless of speed.
This is Hennessey’s third HPE1000 Demon. It’s performing final road testing on the tuner’s track. The driver warms the car before taking it down the drag strip. These short pulls show how the car can change from angel to devil in a split second. The supercharger whine can be heard, but it is not too loud. The roar begins immediately after the throttle is lowered.
The 4.5-liter supercharger, which replaces Demon’s stock, a 2.7-liter unit, is the most significant upgrade HPE1000. Hennessey’s Challenger is now equipped with a new throttle body, exhaust headers and fuel injectors. The package includes a 1-year/12,000-mile warranty to give the buyer some peace of mind.
Hennessey is currently working on a more powerful tune to the Challenger Demon. According to Hennessey, the HPE1200 package will include an upgraded supercharger which will increase the output “to 1500 horsepower and more.” The package will also include an NHRA-legal roll box and parachute that will slow down the speed at the end.
There is one downside to these upgrades: Dodge isn’t making any more Challenger Demon. Tuning one means one less stock vehicle is available.
