You don’t have to be worried, the turbo V6s are still more powerful than the V8s.
According to the latest LC300 intel, a world premiere will be held late this month or early June. It is not surprising that leaks are increasing. After yesterday’s huge leak that confirmed the GR Sport and some technology inside, a juicy section from the technical specifications sheet somehow got lost online several weeks before the premiere.
The land.cruiser.300 account was able to get a table that shows the two engines Toyota will offer at launch. A turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine will produce 409 horsepower (305kW) at 5,200 rpm, and 480 poundfeet (650 Newton meters) of torque at 2,000 rpm to 3,600 rpm.
It outperforms the naturally aspirated 5.7 liter model by adopting forced induction. The LC200’s V8 generates its maximum horsepower of 381 hp (544 Nm) and torque of 401 lbft (544 Nm), significantly later in the rpm range at 5,600 rpm versus 3,600 rpm. The turbocharged engine is also expected to be more efficient than the NA V8.
The other powertrain is a 3.3-liter diesel engine V6 that produces 302 horsepower (225 kW), at 4,000 rpm, and 516 lbft (700 Nm), between 1,600 and 2,600 RPM. The table also shows an increase in output (+30kW and +50Nm) over the older diesel, a V8 twin-turbodiesel 4.5-liter.
It’s not surprising that the V8 is dying. There have been reports for over a year of a new turbo-V6 being used as a replacement. A Toyota patent, dating from September 2020, suggested a new twin turbo V8. This could be for Lexus models. A Toyota insider said that the engine would be installed in models costing $90,000. The LC-F will get it first in 2022.
Although a twin-turbo V8 Land Cruiser with twin-turbo engines would be nice, it is not something we are looking forward to. These new V6 gasoline or diesel engines pack a lot more punch than older units, and likely offer greater fuel efficiency and lower power.
