Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD Reintroduces The Sports Coupe As An EV

This is a great idea.

Opel is bringing the Manta A back to the future. They have given it an electric heart to keep pace with modern times. The ElektroMOD is a rare project that was only completed once. It revives the spirit and performance of the 1970s sports coupe, but swaps the four-cylinder gasoline engine in favor of an electric motor mounted at the rear. It boasts 145 horsepower (108 Kilowatts) as well as 188 pound-feet (2255 Newton-meters), making it the most powerful Manta ever to be built in Russelsheim.

The zero-emissions Manta is a continuation of its predecessor. It retains the rear-wheel drive layout and the four-speed manual transmission. It’s similar in some ways to the Ford Mustang Lithium EEV, which also featured an all-electric powertrain with RWD as well as a three-pedal configuration. Opel Manta GSE ElektroMOD, as it is known, gets its power from a 31-kWh lithium ion battery that can last for around 124 miles (200 km).

Opel has made some changes to the exterior design of the 2018 GT X Experimental Concept, which includes the Vizor front fascia. Since then, it has made its way to production cars and now has an LED screen with a variety messages.

The restomod is finished in vibrant neon yellow paint and features redesigned wheel arches that are compatible with the new 17-inch alloys. The new shoes were specifically designed for the car and come with 195/40 R17 front tires and 205/40 R17 back tires. The trunk lid proudly displays Opel’s “Manta”, Opel’s latest script, at the back.

Wait, there’s more. Opel also tinkered with the interior. Opel added a dual-screen layout to the dashboard. The instrument cluster measures 12 inches, while the infotainment display is 10-inches diagonal. If you see those sporty seats, it is because they are from the Adam S. The cabin is visually connected to the brightly colored body with yellow accents.

Opel suggests that additional factory-created electrical restomods are in the works. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the GT and Calibra will be on the “to do” lists.
