Porsche Tribbiani Edition Celebrates Friends Reunion With Boxy 911

Who says the Germans lack a sense for humor?

Today’s HBO Max Friends Reunion will be broadcast. Porsche’s social media team unexpectedly chose to celebrate the occasion in a very funny way. The image is a Porsche cover placed on top of dozens boxes that look vaguely like a 911’s body, referencing the episode “The One With Joey’s Porsche”.

Episode 5 of season 6 aired in October 1999. It featured the 996-generation Carrera Cabriolet with the hardtop. Joseph Francis Tribbiani Jr., played by Matt LeBlanc (Top Gear) stumbled across a set key Porsche keys in Central Perk, New York City. Instead of putting the keys in the lost-and-found box, he begins to search for the keys and asks around to discover who it belongs to.

The rightful owner eventually arrives on the scene and drives off in his high-performance Zuffenhausen car. Joey purchases a car cover and stuffs the car with boxes in desperate attempts to create the appearance of a sports car silhouette. A bystander falls on the 911 and exposes his secret while trying to catch a football.

Matt LeBlanc reviewed the 911 R many, many years later for Top Gear’s 23rd season.

Last note: The droptop 996 wasn’t the only Porsche that made an appearance on Friends. In season 7, episode 13, Monica E. Geller, played by Courteney cox, received her father’s 1985 911 Targa.
