Why is it so high?
Although we have seen thousands of camouflaged prototypes over time, we don’t recall the last time that we were so curious to see what was underneath the disguise. The next-generation BMW 7 Series was captured once again, hinting at an entirely redesigned exterior hidden under layers of camouflage.
Silver lining: The prototype has a little less camo than the previous, showing a portion of its unique front bumper and the bottom half the large kidney grilles. BMW placed the license plate higher than you would expect, where you would normally find the corporate badge. The simple looking headlights may be temporary as they have a basic appearance, but the original-esque shape and placement is most likely to be the final one. You can guess why the license plate is above the headlights. It won’t be on the production model, as it would look very odd. The bumper’s thin vertical slats make it difficult to mount a license plate. It may be attached to the grille as on the latest BMWs such as the new 4 Series Gran Coupe and the M3/M4.
While mismatched wheels are common on work-in progress vehicles, the unique feature of this prototype is the camera sticking out from the front fenders. White stickers that mimic a door handle design were slapped on the camouflage above the door handles. They look similar to the iX electric SUV. The standard size of the rear doors suggests that we are dealing with a 7 Series with a standard wheelbase. The trunk lid spoiler at the back suggests that it may be a sporty BMW flagship. This would explain the new quad exhausts with more angular finishers. The taillights are placeholders and can be seen continuing on the trunk lid.
The 7 Series prototype is adorned with tiny rivets at various parts of its body. This suggests that the 7 Series prototype is hiding more than one layer of disguise. It’s best to not draw any conclusions about the car’s exterior appearance. The car is certainly interesting from any angle, and we hope that BMW will soon remove additional disguises. Spy shots from the fully-electric have shown that the (name still unknown) will follow the 7 Series’ conventionally-powered design. The zero-emissions sedan could be the best in terms of horsepower and replace the M760i, which is already on the horizon. The M-badged electric 7 Series could pack up to 650 horsepower. However, nothing is confirmed. The next 7 Series won’t be available until July, according to reports. However, logic suggests that an official reveal will take place sooner. The interior, however, is still a mystery. It is likely that the side-by-side screen layout seen in the and the iX 7er will also be installed.
