2022 Acura MDX Type S Displays Its Skin Ahead of Pikes Peak
Although it’s more of an teaser than a reveal for the Type S, we finally see it without camo.

The new Acura MDX was unveiled in December 2020 with the promise of the Type S in 2021. Acura actually gave us a glimpse of its powertrain during the debut, but lacked details or photos. The Type S stealthily makes an appearance at Acura’s Pikes Peak hill climb at June’s end.

We believe Stealthy Acura has only provided a few photos of the exterior of the MDX Type S for us to view. Acura has not shared any new information, but will reveal more details later in the year when the MDX Type S goes to market. The Type S is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. It produces 355 horsepower (264 Kilowatts) as well as 354 pound-feet (479 Newton meters) of torque. It is connected to the four wheels via Acura’s SHAWD system through a 10-speed auto transmission. The Type S is equipped with Brembo brakes at the front and a special Sport + driving mode.
The photos give us a first glimpse at the Type S front fascia, which swaps narrow vertical corner vents with larger irregular pentagons. The rear fascia has a new lower fascia that includes a diffuser and room for quad exhaust tips. This was teased in December 2020. Behind the Type S’s exclusive wheels, you can clearly see the red Brembo brakes. Acura will return to the hill with two TLX Type S race cars. One of them is modified to compete in the open division, while the other is competing in the Exhibition Division. Two NSX racing teams will return to the hill with one competing in the Time Attack 1 Division, and the other in the Exhibition Division.
