Is this a Wildtrak-style bar behind the Cab?
We still have a lot to learn about the next Ford Ranger Raptor. How will it look? What is under the hood? The most important question for American truck enthusiasts is: Will it be sold in America? While we still have some time before these questions are answered completely, the latest spy shots do provide more clues.Camouflage can still be heavy but high-resolution photos allow us to focus on the grilles and headlights more clearly. The familiar Fordbranding should be used on a mesh-style grille, with two pairs of C-ringed headerlights flanking it. This is the same as the current-generation . We expect the new Ranger, and its follow-up Raptor version to heavily borrow from the full-size pickup. This answers the first question.
High-resolution photos of the rear are also available. This is where the fun begins. First, we’ve never seen a style bar behind the Cab. This is the same configuration you see on Ranger variants outside of the US, including the Wildtrak, and the current Raptor. The style bar is enough to convince you that this Raptor prototype has meaty tires and camouflaged back axle.
Also, we get a good look at the taillights. Once again, F150 influences are evident with a C-shaped motif. Although there isn’t much to distinguish this truck from the current model, the prominent dual exhausts stand out. On previous test vehicles, we have seen duals. This suggests that a twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline motor is underneath the hood. This could answer question number 2, and it is possible that Ford might offer it in the States.
We’ll just burst the bubble a little by drawing your attention on the passenger side window in the photos. That’s the driver side of this truck. It’s a prototype right-hand-drive truck so it’s not possible to see the US. Another thing is that a previous video of an alleged Ranger Raptor showed the driver on the left, so we are still unsure.
This year, full disclosure is almost certain to not happen. We expect a debut of the Ranger Raptor in 2022, as the standard next-gen Ranger has not yet been revealed.
