To complete the test, a second car was required.
Although the chances of you running into a moose is low, it’s not impossible to do so. Although the evasive maneuver test, also known as the moose test, has been around since ancient times, it was only in 1997 that it was widely known. In October 1997, Teknikens Varld journalist flipped an A-Class. This led Mercedes to recall all cars and suspend sales. As engineers added ESC to the suspension, development costs increased.
Now, fast forward to March 2022. Spanish magazine km77 A new video has been uploaded by the company’s own moose testing series. It features the new-generation Peugeot 308 It’s a plug in hybrid with the GT Pack and is the most expensive of all the models. It retails for over EUR43,000.
Spanish journalists encountered technical difficulties with the compact hatchback. The power steering of the 308 failed after several unsuccessful attempts at the moose test. The EPS failed to work on one of the runs at 73 km/h (45 mph). The car was turned off and then on again, but this only worked temporarily.
The power steering suddenly stopped working at the same spot on the next attempt. The video shows that the digital instrument cluster displayed a warning message about the absence of EPS. km77 luckily had another car. It was actually an identical 308 equipped with the same Michelin Primacy4 tires measuring 225/40R18.
Although the electrified hatchback passed the test, the final result was not impressive. 72 km/h (45 MPH) was the fastest entry speed, without having to take down any cones during a moose test. This is a significant decrease from the entry speed of the previous generation, which had an entry speed at 82 km/h (51km/h)
km77 says that the new Peugeot 308 feels safe and manageable at all times. It also doesn’t behave in a confusing way. The 2022 Opel Astra is expected to deliver similar results, as it is closely related to the French five door hatchback. The wagon version of both models is also available.
