Toyota today introduced the GT 86 CS–R3 rally vehicle, which will be in action next month at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland.
Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), a development of the road-going vehicle, created a track-only variant to comply with FIA R3 classification requirements. The output of the vertically-opposed four-cylinder 2.0 liter boxer engine was increased from 197 horsepower (147 kW), to 240-252 bhp (175-186 kW), by changing the software and tweaking compression ratio and cam-lift.
A 6-speed sequential transmission and a limited slip differential with adjustable ramp settings channel power to the rear wheels. The HJS racing exhaust, exhaust manifold, MacPherson front & rear suspensions are used. OZ 17-inch wheels (for tarmac) or 15-inch wheels (for gravel) are used. Inside the safety cage is FIA-homologated lightweight R3. The curb weight for the road-legal Toyota GT 86 is 1,275 kg (2.811 lbs), while the CS-R3 version is 1,080 kg (2.381 lbs).
It will be in action for the first-time in August at the ninth round of FIA World Rally Championship. The car will serve as the official “pathfinder” vehicle and will be driven through every stage of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland.
Toyota has announced that the GT86 CS-R3 will be available for customer delivery in the first quarter 2015, with a price comparable to other R3 vehicles.
