There is more evidence that the 911 Safari might actually occur.

We would need to spend more than half an hour counting all the 911 derivatives Porsche has in mind for its iconic sports car, the 992. The Zuffenhausen brand is also working on some unique innovations, such as a hybrid derivative. Today, however, we are not talking about the electrified 9-1-1, as our spies discovered an entirely new 911.

Although it doesn’t have hybrid powertrain, or at least not in our opinion, it has significantly more ground clearance than the 911. This is a marked departure from the sports car that we all know and love. However, it’s still not too unusual as Safari-spec versions of the car have a long history. Porsche has never sold such a model on stilts, but the German company is not unfamiliar with outdoor 911.

New spy photos seem to confirm that at least one Safari concept ( there was also a Macan, too), built in recent years, will be realized. The prototype was captured at Nurburgring with a modified bumper and a lifted suspension. This allows for better departure and approach angles. The prototype also has tacked-on wheel arch extensions. This could indicate wider tracks at both axles.

A Safari-spec 911 would be equipped with all-wheel drive. We don’t think it will be surprising if it is based on a Carrera 4S. It’s not clear if it will be a permanent addition to the lineup or a limited edition special edition. This niche is well-covered by the aftermarket, so it’s more likely that Porsche will try to get in on the action with its high-riding 911.

A formal debut could be made before the year ends or in the early 2022, considering that the first prototype of this type was found back October 2020.
