Split-headlight design seems to be on the horizon.
BMW will present a concept showcasing the next-generation 7 Series at the IAA in Munich, September. We already have an idea of the final production model. We can now share new spy photos that show more of the design of the flagship sedan.
This prototype was found near Munich and features the final production taillights and headlights. It seems the luxury limousine will be a departure from the norm. The camouflage may be misleading our eyes. However, it seems that the headlights will split into two sections, with one set of narrower clusters located lower in the bumper. Although this gives us the 8 Series vibes, it’s too early for us to make a definitive conclusion.
The rear doesn’t look particularly surprising, but the design and placement of the taillights will be different from the current model. Although the trial car’s rear bumper is somewhat conservative, we expect there to be a variety depending on trim level and appearance package. Although the model was described by our photographers as a regular combustion-powered vehicle, we now know that an all-electric version with the same exterior design is in development. All models will use a new platform that is similar to the iX’s architecture.
The V12 engine will soon be discontinued. Instead, the next generation 7 Series should feature the battery-powered version. The i7 M60 (name unknown) is expected to have at least two electric motors and could produce around 660 horsepower. The next-generation 7 Series will be unveiled in the coming year. Sales are expected to start in 2021 or 2022.
