According to some sources, the culling was necessary because of supply chain problems.
Our roundup of all vehicles being killed for the 2022 year included one entry from Mercedes Benz. That’s the Mercedes AMG GT R. But, there seems to be a long list, according to a Reddit user bsw1234 who provided proof to moderators of the r/cars forum.
The post states that nearly all V8-powered Mercedes cars, including all AMGs and AMGs, won’t be sold in the US during the 2022 model year. Global supply chain issues are the main reason for the culling.
These models include AMG C63 and AMG GLC63, AMG E63. According to an unpublished document (due privacy concerns), only the S580 Maybach and S580 Maybach were spared from the above-mentioned onslaught.
The thread contains text that explains the situation.
We must however point out that this rumor will continue to be a rumor until Mercedes-Benz makes an official announcement, if any.
It is not clear how long the move to cancel all V8s in 2022 will last. It’s obvious that this temporary change will not last. However, Mercedes has confirmed that the C63 hybrid powertrain will be downsized to a four-cylinder engine.
In the coming days, we will have more information. If you have ordered a 2022 version of one of these cars, you may want to check with your dealer.
