This is going to be costly.
Someone in Detroit is having an awful day. The unfortunate accident occurred on I-75 north of downtown. While we don’t know the exact details, it appears that the impact was minor. This is also true for other motorists who were involved in the chaos. The collision cost will not exceed minor.
Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV had a helicopter hovering in the area, recording the aerial footage you see above. Although we can’t prove it, the cars with their sides look just like new Mustang Shelby GT500s. The green car has a huge wing at the back, just like the Carbon Fiber Track Package. This $18,500 option is available on a $74,000 car. They don’t have $10,000 painted stripes but we could still be looking at $180,000 worth wrecked GT500s. We suspect the snazzy Ford one ton dually-tow vehicle with a trailer attached into the passenger quarter panel will not be cheap.
Although the cars look good, it is possible for them to be damaged. The wrap and stickers that were on the cars before delivery are still there, which suggests they weren’t yet in dealership possession.
These cars could have been traded to another local dealer or sent for special work right away with all the PDI bits intact. One possibility is that they were heading to Penske’s paint facility to get the $10,000 painted stripes. Penske may have some more work ahead if that is the case.
We don’t know the reason that the Mustangs were in that trailer. We hope nobody was hurt in the melee. It doesn’t appear to be too severe, and vehicles can still be rebuilt. Are there any details we have missed? Send us any information via the comments.
