It’s going into production, which is the best part.
The Fiat 500’s history is quite interesting. In 1958, the first edition of the city car was introduced. It was called Fiat 500 Jolly. The Italian brand Spiaggina is marking the 60th anniversary by unveiling a showcar, which unsurprisingly goes under the name Spiaggina. This joint effort was made by Garage Italia and Pininfarina. The roofless version has no rear seats, a nod to the classic model of many decades past.
The interior is finished in a beautiful two-tone Sky Blue/Pearl White livery. It also features a matching interior with a bench that is reminiscent of 1960s cars. The retro feel is further enhanced by the waterproof upholstery and the multitude of chrome accents that evoke cars from the past. Vintage alloy wheels and the speedster-esque, lowered windscreen add a nice touch. They are similar to the rear cargo area that is covered in slatted Cork. This mimics the teak floors of high-end yachts.
Garage Italia calls the Spiaggina a unique model, but you’ll be pleased to know that it will soon be available for purchase. Customers can choose from any Fiat 500 engine. Pininfarina helped Garage Italia with structural reinforcement and designed the rear roll bar. This was to ensure that the chassis is rigid.
Fiat may sell a less expensive Spiaggina’58, of which 1,958 cars will be made to honor the year of its inception. It is shown below as a convertible with Volare Blue paint, an ivory fabric roof, and a white beltline. The exterior features include chrome side mirror caps, retro-looking 16 inch alloy wheels and vintage Fiat logos.
The limited-run model has a similar two-tone interior design and includes a 7″ digital driver’s screen and a touchscreen the same size as the infotainment system with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Customers can also enjoy DAB digital radio and TomTom navigation as well as automatic AC. Rear parking sensors, rain and dusk sensors are also included in the standard goodies.
