2021 Jeep Wagoneer First Time Spied

It is finally here.

The brand’s two three-row flagships, the Jeep Wagoneer (and Grand Wagoneer) are now real. We finally have spy photos of the new Jeep model after years of speculations and a few misinterpretations on Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ product roadmap. We can’t see much.

Jeep Wagoneer spy photos show large SUV hidden under thick camouflage, which distorts its design below. The grille and headlights are well covered. The exterior is boxy, but it hides its details with the disorienting camouflage. The interior is not visible in spy photos. However, it is based upon the Ram 1500 so it could be very similar to the new truck.

The Ram 1500’s powertrains should be used by the Wagoneer. This includes the 3.6-liter V6 and the V6 paired together with Ram’s 48 volt, mild hybrid system. When the Wagoneer arrives, it will also be powered by Ram’s 5.7 liter V8.

Two models bearing the Wagoneer name are being launched by Jeep: the entry-level Wagoneer, and the more expensive Grand Wagoneer. The standard Wagoneer, which is three-rows in length, will be competing against the Ford Expedition as well as the GMC Yukon. However the Grand Wagoneer will be up against the Lincoln Navigator or Land Rover Range Rover. Both models will be priced competitively.

We’ve been hearing a lot about the Jeep Wagoneer for many years and have yet to see it in action. At least FCA’s 2011 roadmap, which showed a Grand Wagoneer being a worthy replacement for the Jeep Commander, has prompted murmurings about a three-row Jeep. FCA’s 2014 roadmap showed the Grand Wagoneer as a replacement for the Jeep Commander. The Grand Wagoneer was slated to return in 2018. FCA approved the Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer. 2018 was a different story, with the Wagoneer nameplate remaining on the roadmap.

FCA has continually strayed from its plan over the years. But it seems that the Wagoneer will finally arrive. The Wagoneer is expected to debut mid-2020. It may debut at the Detroit Auto Show, but the Grand Wagoneer will debut shortly thereafter. The Grand Wagoneer as well as the Wagoneer models should be available in 2021.
