We want it for reasons we don’t understand.
We’re willing to bet a gazillion that you have never seen a stretched Volkswagen Passat wagon. We bet you haven’t seen one with the extended portion being just an extra Passat backside that was welded together to make a longer-bed version. What purpose would such a modification serve in a vehicle like the B4-era Passat? That depends on a very important question. Are you alive, or dead?
This Passat might be the right car for you if you are dead. It is currently for sale at Sumperk in Czech Republic, where it serves as a special mode for transportation for the dearly deceased. This Passat is a unique hearse, not only because it’s blue, but also because it has a black interior. The rear Passat is not welded with an extra backside. Instead, the floor has been stretched to fit a full-size casket. And the whole rear section hinges open to reveal the interior. It’s certainly not the most welcoming place to spend your last ride.
According to reports, the car was custom-built by a professional company. It is the only known example. The car appears in excellent condition, with only a few maintenance items listed over the past several months. We believe this car still has a lot of life. The original owner is the current owner. With only 30,000 km (18,641 miles), the odometer shows, it appears to be in good condition. The Passat comes with a set of winter tires as an added bonus. To sweeten the deal, the seller may offer a casket of honest-to-goodness if you are willing to negotiate.
What kind of deal is this? It seems like a great deal. Although it seems like a lot, the listing lists a price of CZK 50,000. In US currency, these Czech Korunas are only $2,350. There would be a small fee to ship it across the pond. But, where else can you find such a cool long-roof Passat with such an unusual upfit?
