The McLaren former designer isn’t entirely in agreement with the idea of a revived Countach.

The Lamborghini Countach has been a hot new car this year. It is also a huge business success for the Italian automaker. We saw a designer add some retrotastic touches to the supercar. Frank Stephenson’s thoughts on the resurrected Countach are interesting.

Frank Stephenson, an American automobile designer and architect responsible for many great cars over the past three decades, is not well-known. These include the Ford Escort RS Cosworth and original BMW X5, Maserati MC12 and Fiat Punto and Bravo, and McLaren 720S. Stephenson’s latest video features the Countach – “a very very, very, very important car in the automotive industry, especially supercar design.” Stephenson is trying to figure out if the modern interpretation of the Countach is a tactic to attract the attention of wealthy Lambo enthusiasts or a fitting tribute to one of history’s greatest supercars.

Stephenson starts from the front three-quarters view and says he can see “immediately” that he is looking at a “modern version, an updated version of the Countach.” But, it doesn’t “stretch enough to the future to become a newer Lamborghini Countach.” The Aventador’s design limitations means that there are certain design restrictions, which, according to the famed designer, is one of the biggest problems associated with the supercar.
