Hyundai South Korea has released several images and preliminary details with the KDM-spec 2016 Avante.
The new Hyundai compact sedan is noticeably larger than the previous model. It measures 20 mm longer (4,570 mm), 25mm wider (1800 mm) as well as 5 mm higher (1440 mm). However, the wheelbase remains the same at 2700mm. The large hexagonal front grille is highlighted with chrome accents. On the higher-spec models, the headlights that look like a Jaguar are paired up with LED daytime run lights.
Side profile shows a familiar silhouette, with a slightly sloped roofline and new alloy wheel designs. The more expensive models will have chromed door handles, while the lower models will get body-colored handles. The taillights look a lot like the previous generation, but they are narrower and don’t extend as far to the sides. It appears that there is a subtle trunk lid spoiler, and a shark fin antenna. This is the same as its predecessor.
Although we don’t yet have images of the cabin, we did get a set of spy photos that included a photo with the interior. This is similar to the design seen in other Hyundai products. The car featured a new 3-spoke steering wheel with many buttons. It also had an 8-inch display for the infotainment systems, an 8-speaker JBL audio system, alloy pedals, and a 7-speed DCT. It’s not bad, but it could be a bit more exciting. The official interior images will hopefully improve upon the initial impression.
The Avante KDM-spec will come with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel that produces 136 PS. It is paired up with a six speed manual and an optional sevenspeed dual clutch gearbox. A 1.6-liter petrol unit with 132 PS is also available, as well as a 2.0-liter gasoline unit with 149 PS. The LPG-compatible engine with 1.6 units has 120 PS.
Hyundai claims they have decreased drag coefficient to 0.27 Cd. The Avante will come with a lot of safety equipment, including seven airbags and lane departure warning. Smart high-beam assist and smart cruise control are also available.
We expect that the international version will be officially introduced very soon.
