Golf24’s new 2.5-liter turbocharged five cylinder engine is available from VW Group.
VW it touting this as the Golf’s ‘comeback’ to the Green Hell as the model returns to the Nurburgring-Nordschleife for the legendary 24-hour race this upcoming June.
The Golf24 is an all-wheel drive, permanent touring car that uses the VW Golf VI. It boasts a power output of 440 PS (324kW), and has been tested in Portugal as well as Italy. The Golf24 is powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged powerplant from VW Group. It has a maximum torque output of 540 Nm and is mated with a six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters.
In 2007, a factory-built Golf was used at the Nurburgring. It was 300 PS (221kW) and came in 8th overall.
“With the new Golf24, we continue our successful commitment to the Nurburgring 24-hour racing. The race is a technical challenge …[ and we want to make it a highlight for a large audience, just in time for the 35th Anniversary of the GTI,” Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director, stated in the press release.
The 24-hour race at Nurburgring takes places between June 23 and June 26, 2011.
